Given the results to your test, you might also consider graphic design! While the ability to draw comes in handy, it is by no means a requirement. As long as you are able to visually convey your ideas through sketches, you'd be fine. No one expects visually planning and sketches to be pretty!

do you need to know how to draw to become an interior designer? (4) I would practice both together! Pick a typical graphic design project (like designing a logo, poster, app, etc) and start by sketching out your ideas on paper. Once you feel like you're completely out of ideas, force yourself to come up with 5-10 more (these are often your best and most unique ideas!). Then move on to the digital side, refining your best two or three ideas. Then pick the best of those and try to complete the design. This is essentially how most design projects end up playing out and will help you develop the relevant traditional and digital skills simultaneously! Jake Martin

do you need to know how to draw to become an interior designer? (5) In regards to the programs to learn, it's dependent on your areas of interest and budget. The Adobe Creative Cloud suite is the industry standard (Illustrator for logos/graphics, Photoshop for anything involving photography, Indesign for text based projects) but it is pretty expensive. I hear good things about Affinity products (https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/) as a cheaper alternative and while not many people in the industry use them, they would help you learn about digital design. I highly recommend looking into Figma if you are interested in UI/UX design (designing apps and websites). It's free and pretty easy to pick up!Hope this helps! Jake Martin

I agree completely with Sunitha. Sometimes, doing a quick sketch or a more detailed drawing can be the best way to communicate your ideas, so it's good to have some ability. The nice thing about drawing is that you can actually improve through practice (and possibly by taking some art classes if you can fit them into your schedule).

do you need to know how to draw to become an interior designer? (9) For interior design, look into AutoCAD (or other layout program). For 3D rendering, I use SketchUp, but there are probably other programs out there. For drawing directly in the computer, I have a Wacom tablet--it's closer to drawing on paper and I find it invaluable. I use it with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. The nice thing about interior design as a profession is that you don't do the same thing every day--some days you work on the computer a lot, some you meet face-to-face with clients, some you go on site visits to see the space you will be working on, etc. I was a graphic designer for many years, and it got kind of monotonous for me. Leslie’s Answer

You don't have to be the world's best artist to be an interior designer. Most clients will be impressed at your skills no matter what because they are not able to put their thoughts down at paper at all. Please keep in mind that if you get a degree in interior design, there are many career opportunities other than just being a designer. You can work in the furniture industry, design wallpaper and fabric, or be a project manager for a design firm.

I recommend getting an internship at the type of design firm you think you would like to pursue. Real world experience is the best experience in my opinion. You will find that many firms/designers don't do big presentations for their clients like we were expected to do in school. I was in your exact situation, wanting to go into design but not good at drawing. Now I have a career I love as a product owner for a technology company. Just get your degree and do at least one internship. You will figure out your passions and path in life.

It's been quite a while since I last picked up a pencil to sketch something out. These days, we mostly rely on software to create our sketches and construction drawings. In presentations, I mainly use actual samples to show.
