Copy and Save Snipping Tool

Pictures in Microsoft Outlook emails may be included as an attached file or embedded into the body of the email. Attachments are easy to save, but embedded pictures require an extra step or two. Embedded pictures can be extracted by copying and saving or by using the Snipping Tool.

Copy and Save

  1. Right click on the picture in the email. If there is an option to "Save Picture As," select that. A new window opens, where you enter a file name for the picture, and confirm the location and file type. If there is no option to "Save Picture As," select "Copy." Then open any image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint, create a new blank image, and paste the picture from the email. Now you can save the picture anywhere on your hard drive.

Snipping Tool

  1. Some pictures in email are actually composed of several sections. Instead of saving each section in its own file, you can use the Microsoft Snipping Tool to extract the entire picture as one file. Ensure the entire picture is visible, start the Snipping Tool program, and use the cursor to outline the picture. As soon as the picture is outlined, it appears in the Snipping Tool window, and you can save it.
