Try It Yourself
Imagine that you took four classes, each one counting for three credits, and received two A's and two B's.
To calculate your GPA, multiply the grade points by the credits:
4 grade points X 3 credits = 12
4 grade points X 3 credits = 12
3 grade points X 3 credits = 9
3 grade points X 3 credits = 9
Add up your grade points. In this case, it would be 42.
Then divide 42 by the total number of credits you took, which is 12.
42 / 12 = 3.5
Therefore, 3.5 would be your GPA.
Note: Rutgers University–Newark Undergraduate does not give out "minus" grades (such as "A-" or "B-"). Grades earned at institutions other than Rutgers and the New Jersey Institute of Technology are not calculated into the cumulative grade point average.
