As if to counteract the goodwill generated by the excellent gameplay and graphics of Resident Evil 5, Capcom has announced upcoming downloadable content for the game that offers players competitive multiplayer gameplay.
I'm all for the idea of downloadable content, but Capcom's plan seems exceedingly greedy. Competitive multiplayer is the sort of thing that should be included in the game to begin with.
The fact that the DLC is close enough to release that Capcom is issuing official press releases indicates that the mode is either already on the disc or is such an easy addition that, aside from a desire to generate extra cash, there's no reason not to have offered it to gamers to begin with.
If you're still interested, the "Versus" DLC offers two gameplay modes for your $5: one that challenges two players to kill enemies in an effort to accrue the most points, and one that tasks you with hunting down the other player. No official release date has yet been given.
