If your Sim is wealthy and business-minded, they can try their hands at Running a Veterinary Clinic. Doing so is quite similar to Running a Restaurant in the Dining Out Game Pack and Running a Retail Store in the Get to Work Expansion Pack. If you are familiar with either of those mechanics, know that running a vet clinic is even easier.

As with other businesses, you will need to spend money to make money. You should have at least §15,000 in the bank before you attempt running a vet clinic, although you can get away with having less if you restrict your items, but the more stations you have the more Sims you'll be able to help.

Setting up a Veterinary Clinic

To buy a lot for your new clinic, have a Sim click the cash register icon in the bottom-right corner of the interface to open the Store Panel. Click the dropdown box, then click to buy a vet clinic. If the game is paused, it will need to be unpaused to proceed. Note that the options for buying other types of business will be available if you have the respective expansion or game packs installed.

After selecting that, you'll be taken to the neighborhood screen. You can purchase any unoccupied lot or any unowned residential lot. Brindleton Bay features one vet clinic by default that you can purchase, but if you buy it furnished you'll need over §80,000 to buy it.

As with other businesses, you can own any number of restaurants, stores, and clinics that you wish. The businesses are considered owned by the family and therefore passed down to the next generation automatically even if the buyer dies.

Once you come to the lot, you will be prompted to transfer funds to your clinic from your personal account. You can only use business funds to make changes to your clinic, but you can transfer funds between your accounts anytime by clicking the small button with a simoleon symbol and two arrows next to your current account balance.

During initial construction, you will need one each of the following items at minimum:

  • Exam Table
  • Vet Podium
  • Waste Disposal

You can also purchase the following items to increase your clientele (and therefore the fees you can collect):

  • Surgery Station
  • Medicine Crafting Table
  • Medicine Vending Machine

Of all those objects, you will ever only need one vet podium; this is the object other Sims use to check in their pets to be treated. For the other five, having multiple objects of each can help bring in more customers if you have the employees to run everything smoothly. Further, don't forget basic facilities for your customers and employees, such as public bathrooms for the former and a break room for the latter. You can use door locking interactions to restrict customers from entering employee-only areas.

Veterinary Clinic Settings

At any point in Build Mode you can click the iHouse icon in the top-left corner of the screen to see the lot's dimensions, minimum object requirements, and any Lot Traits you want to assign to it. Unlike other businesses, the Lot Traits are largely irrelevant.

For other settings you'll need to be in Live Mode. Click the Store Panel in the interface, then the small button with a wrench and a shop front icon to open the settings panel. Here you can select your price markup for items, assign the quality of your medicine supply, set uniforms for your employees, or sell your clinic.

You can buy additional perks from the Store Panel page, and you earn perk points simply by running your business well. There are no other settings however; you don't need to set dress codes or merchandise like with other stores.

Employee Training and Feedback

Your employees gain skills by doing their jobs, and they will eventually need raises to match their skills. You can also spend extra money anytime by sending them on training courses to speed their development.

Customers will rate your clinic based on timely service and service quality. They'll be quick to voice their displeasure if they're unsatisfied. Listen to their feedback as they'll be specific, and problems in a clinic are easy to fix. For example, if you have too many customers to handle and they're complaining of long wait times, consider buying new equipment or hiring more employees.
